Pickets and police lock horns in Bogra

On Monday, shutdown supporters and law enforcers locked horns in Bogra – the second day of the opposition’s 84-hour nationwide hartal.

In the Latifpur colony area of the town police intervened with preparations of a pro-shutdown procession around 7:45am.

Bogra Sadar Officer-in-Charge Syed Shahid Alam said 56 rounds of rubber bullets were fired and five teargas shells were lobbed to dispel the pickets.

Meanwhile in another separate incident, pickets blasted at least 10 handmade bombs at a pro-hartal procession in Dholat upazila at around 9am.

Local police sources said 10 rounds of rubber bullets were fired, and some teargas shells were lobbed, to tame the situation.

No detentions were heard of in either of the two incidents.

Three arrested

Three people were detained in Bogra town on Sunday night in relation to a vandalism case.

Sadar OC Shahid Alam said the arrested included two BNP and one Islami Chhatra Shibir supporters.
