Extra forces removed from Khaleda’s house, office

Update : 10 Nov 2013, 12:50 PM

Additional security forces were withdrawn from the perimeter of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan residence and political office on Sunday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Lutfiul Kabir said the move was made under orders from “higher authorities.”

From now on, Khaleda Zia will be under protocol security arrangement, sources said.

For three days, starting from Friday, additional security forces, including female police personnel, were deployed near the Gulshan residence and office of Khaleda Zia.

The deployment was made in parallel to the arrest of five BNP leaders on Friday hours after a 72-hour hartal was declared.

Police refrained from showing any specific reasons behind the deployment.

But Home Minister MK Alamgir broke silence on Sunday and said the deployment was made for the security of the opposition chief.
