Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Rajshahi University beat up an activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir on the campus on Saturday.
Later, the injured Shibir activist was handed over to police.
The Shibir activist was identified as Matiur Rahman, a fourth year student of the history department and a resident of the university’s Syeed Amir Ali hall.
Witnesses said a group of BCL leaders and activists, led by its RU unit organising secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu and former joint secretary Sudipto Salam, caught Matiur on the campus around 12 noon, suspecting he was a Shibir activist.
RU unit BCL president Mizanur Rahman Rana said their leaders and activists handed Matiur over to police as he had been working as an informer for Shibir.
Abdul Mozid, officer-in-charge of Motiher police station, told the Dhaka Tribune Matiur was under police custody, adding that the next step would be taken after primary investigations were complete.
