Local BNP has called separate daylong hartals in Companyganj and Kabirhat upazilas of Noakhali and in Homna and Titas of Comilla for today protesting the detention of BNP standing committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed and MK Anwar.
Detective Branch of police picked up three BNP top leaders – Moudud, MK Anwar and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah from the city’s Karwanbazar area as soon as they came out of Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel around 8:15pm, reports UNB.
Protesting the detention of Moudud who comes from Noakhali, local BNP leaders announced the dawn-to-dusk hartal in Companyganj and Kabirhat upazilas of the district for today.
District BNP organizing secretary Abu Naser confirmed the shutdown.
Meanwhile, 10 vehicles were vandalised while a bus was torched in Maizdi soon after the news of the detention of the BNP leaders travelled fast to the district.
In Comilla, local BNP on Friday called another daylong shutdown in Homna and Titas upazilas for today protesting the detention of MK Anwar.
