At least 40 people were injured in a clash between the local Awami League and BNP activists at the Bahria Bazar area under Sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday.
Witnesses said the BNP brought out a procession supporting the 60-hour nationwide hartal in the morning. On the other hand, the local Awami League brought out an anti-hartal procession in the same area.
At one stage, the activists of both parties were engaged in a clash while crossing each other at about 11am, leaving at least 40 people injured on both sides, said police.
Confirming the matter, Chandpur Police Super Md Amir Zafar said, “Police brought the situation under control immediately after being informed.”
However, as of yet, the police has not held anyone in this regard, he added.
The injured were treated at different local hospitals and clinics.
