5 AL members injured in capital blast

Some five Awami League members were injured in a crude bomb blast in the capital’s Motijheel area during the second day of the countrywide 60-hour hartal on Tuesday.

The injured were identified as Taslima Akhter Seema, 30, Md Arman, 50, Siddiqur Rahman, 22, Nurul Islam Majhi,60, and Kadam Ali Sarkar, 55.

Witnesses said miscreants set off crude bombs when the ruling party members were sitting near the sculpture of Balakain Motijheel at around 11:30am, leaving five people injured.

Confirming the incident, Motijheel police station Sub-Inspector Harun-ur-Rashid said: “They were injured when several crude bombs were hurled in the area.”

“An angry mob beat up a man, suspecting him to be one of the pickets who hurled the crude bombs,” he said.

He added: “We rescued the injured, and the victim of the mob beating, and sent them to Dhaka Medical.”

The victim of the mob beating, Jubo Dal activist Md Akram Hoossain, 40, was arrested for his alleged involvement with the bomb attacks.
