At least four people were killed and 527 others injured in 68 incidents of political violence across Bangladesh in September, according to a report by the Human Rights Support Society (HRSS).
The human rights organisation disclosed the figures in a press release on Saturday, saying the report was based on news published in 16 national media outlets and information gathered through its own investigations.
In August, 70 incidents of political violence left seven people dead and 536 injured, according to the report.
HRSS said the September incidents were mainly linked to political disputes, attempts to establish dominance and extortion.
Of the 68 incidents, 35 stemmed from internal conflicts within the BNP, leaving 340 people injured and one dead.
Seven clashes between the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami left 61 people injured, while six clashes between the BNP and Awami League left 42 injured and one dead.
Two clashes between Jamaat-e-Islami and the Awami League left three people injured and one dead, while three clashes between the BNP and the National Citizens Party (NCP) injured 16 people.
Seven clashes between the BNP and other political parties left 15 people injured. Another seven clashes involving different political parties left 50 people injured and one dead.
Of the four people killed in political violence during the month, two were affiliated with the Awami League, while one each belonged to the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, HRSS said.
Meanwhile, at least 20 people were injured in two clashes linked to the upcoming local government elections.
The report also documented 12 separate attacks by miscreants on political leaders and activists in September. The attacks left seven people injured, including five BNP activists and one Jamaat-e-Islami activist.
