Gono Forum President and one of the architects of Bangladesh’s Constitution Dr Kamal Hossain has congratulated newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
In a message, Dr Kamal said Fakhrul had played a significant role in advancing democracy and voting rights in Bangladesh. Despite facing suppression, false cases and imprisonment, he had led democratic movements on the streets for more than a decade, he said.
Fakhrul also contributed to the formation of the Jatiya Oikya Front in 2018 to establish a welfare-oriented state and advance democracy and voting rights, according to the message.
“I was impressed by Mirza Fakhrul Islam’s political wisdom, courage and exceptional leadership. Despite government conspiracies, he managed to keep the BNP united,” Dr Kamal said.
He described Fakhrul as a leader committed to democratic values and ideals and responsible towards his party. He also thanked the BNP and members of parliament for electing Fakhrul as president.
