Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, held a protest rally on Saturday condemning statements made by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at the rally held in the capital’s Suhrawardi Uddyan on Friday.
BCL activists took out a procession around noon from Modhu’r Canteen and marched around the campus demonstrating before gathering in front of DU Central Library for the protest rally.
At the rally, speakers said Khaleda’s statements favoured and supported Jamaat-e-Islami, its student wing Islami-Chattra-Shibir and the war criminals.
BCL Central President Bodiuzzaman Shohag said Begum Zia proved herself to be an advocate for anti-liberation forces by making such a “shocking” speech in a place like Suhrawardi Uddyan, which is of such historic significance for Bangladesh.
He said that the opposition chief wanted to make Bangladesh a feudal country with the support of anti-liberation forces such as Jamaat-e-Ialami but “the people of Bangladesh will never give her the chance to fulfil her wish,” he added.
Shohag urged BCL student leaders and activists to remain alert to militants and anti-liberation forces.
