Minister without portfolio Suranjit Sengupta has said BNP's 60-hour hartal threat for talks on caretaker government foiled the atmosphere of a dialogue.
“The threat is a hindrance to the process of dialogue,” he said while addressing a discussion program in the capital Saturday morning.
However, he avoided a direct statement while referring to Prime Minister's phone call to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“Surely the information minister was well aware of what he was saying,” he said.
On Friday, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said the prime minister would make a phone call to the opposition chief “anytime” seeking dialogue.
That afternoon, Khaleda warned of a 60-hour nationwide shutdown from Sunday if the government fails to hold a dialogue on caretaker government.
This was what Suranjit said spoiled the atmosphere of a dialogue.
The veteran Awami League leader also sought “constitutional explanation why the running government was unconstitutional.”
“Just when the atmosphere is peaceful, BNP placed a proposal which is in fact a new form of the old caretaker government,” he added.
Suranjit Sengupta was speaking at a discussion program organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at Public Library Auditorium.
