Khaleda: Polls won’t be held under AL govt

Update : 25 Oct 2013, 09:21 AM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has said the next general election would not be held under the Awami League-led government.

Participation from all parties should be ensured in the upcoming elections, said Khaleda while addressing the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

Khaleda Zia also deemed the ruling government as “a government of Awami League”.

“The government finally granted permission for the rally but did not allow us to use mike in the rally,” she said.

Khaleda alleged: “AL was involved with the BDR carnage but it filed false cases against BNP leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu and kept him incarcerated for a long time.”

Calling the AL government “the enemy of the young generation,” she said: “Awami League detained Shibir president Delwar without any valid reason, tortured him and crippled him.”

The BNP chief arrived at the venue around 4pm Friday afternoon in a white Jeep, reports this Dhaka Tribune correspondent.

Khaleda waved at the crowd in response and assumed center-stage, between BNP acting secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Vice President Sadeque Hossain Khoka, at 4:05pm.

The rally kicked-off with a speech by BNP Vice President Sadeque Hossain Khoka at 3:20pm.

Among those present on stage were Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas, ASM Hannan Shah, Abdul Mannan and Zainul Abdin Farroque.
