5 held as BNP men clash with police in Chittagong

Five persons including three BNP activists were arrested as pro-BNP professionals clashed with police in Chittagong Thursday afternoon.

The arrestees are --Nacho Chakma, Sultan Mia, Nezamuddin, Jesmina Khanam, and Sakhina Begum.

Assistant Commissioner of Kotwali circle Mirza Sayem Mahmud confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the arrest.

Witnesses, BNP leaders and activists said when Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was on his way back home after visiting an injured BNP leader in a local clinic, police chased the BNP men.

Later BNP leaders and activists tried to gather in BNP’s Chittagong party office at Nasiman Bhaban, and claimed that they successfully defied the 144 and vowed they would keep defying it as well in the coming days. 

As a ban on rallies and processions being effective, police dispersed the attempt to hold the pre-scheduled rally in the Wasa intersection at 2:30pm.

Then BNP activists along with BNP leader and former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation Mir Md Nasir Uddin tried to gather in front of the Almas Cinema Hall and VIP tower.

They locked in a clash with police as the law enforcers intercepted them from a procession.

One Monwara Begum Moni has been reported to be injured in the scuffle with police members, was undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

The BNP activists vandalised three vehicles during the clash.

Among them Nacho claimed he is a student of Chittagong University.
