Public rallies and processions have been banned from Thursday until further notice in Chittagong city, the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) said on Wednesday.
CMP Additional Commissioner (crime & Operation) Banaj Kumar Majumder confirmed the news with the Dhaka Tribune.
The ban has been imposed in fear of clashes ahead of conflicting schedules of rallies planned by both Awami League and BNP from 24-26 October in Laldighi Maidan of the port city.
A similar ban on public rallies has been imposed in the capital since last Sunday ahead of BNP's scheduled rally on October 25, which the opposition party confirmed today will still take place.
