2 ruling party men hacked during Tangail hartal

Two ruling party leaders were hacked during the dawn-to-dusk hartal called by district BNP in Tangail, protesting the arrest of former president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.

The injured were identified as Chhatra League Gopalpur upazila branch Joint Secretary Nazrul Islam and Jubo League Sports Secretary Jalal Uddin Akand.

Gopalpur Police Station Officer-in-charge Jashim Uddin said: “Hartal supporters attacked and hacked the two leaders with sharp weapons during a possession brought out in support of the hartal around 7:45am.”

He said: “Nazrul and Jalal were rushed to Gopalpur Upazila Health Complex and later sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital when their health condition deteriorated.”

On Monday night, police detained former president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, after the law enforcement agency officials and the BNP chairperson’s security force (CSF) engaged in a scuffle during her visit to the party headquarters at Nayapaltan.
