Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed BNP leaders and activists not to organize any showdown or large gathering to welcome him upon his return to the country on Friday night following his official visits to Malaysia and China.

The instruction was conveyed to party leaders and activists by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, said BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

According to Sayrul, only senior BNP leaders, senior ministers and high-ranking government officials will receive the prime minister at the airport.

Party sources said leaders and activists have also been asked not to gather at the airport or arrange any show of strength in line with the prime minister's directive.

"Following the prime minister's directive, there will be no showdown. Only the designated individuals will be present at the airport," Sayrul said.

Tarique left Dhaka on June 21 for Malaysia before travelling to China on his first official foreign tour as prime minister.

The prime minister and his entourage were scheduled to depart Beijing for Dhaka at 5pm local time on Friday after concluding the visit.
