Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka Metropolitan South has expelled four individuals following an incident involving journalists in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area.

The decision was taken on Wednesday based on the recommendations of a four-member inquiry committee formed to investigate the matter.

The expelled individuals are Shafiqul Islam, Khairul Alam Russel, Abul Kalam and Mamun Hossain.

In a statement, signed by Abdus Sattar Suman, assistant publicity secretary of Jamaat’s Dhaka Metropolitan South, the party said an anti-fascist protest rally was held on Tuesday in Dhanmondi under its Dhaka Metropolitan South Dhanmondi zone initiative.

The statement said an “unfortunate and regrettable incident” involving journalists occurred after the rally, during speeches.

Following the incident, leaders of Jamaat’s Dhaka Metropolitan South visited injured journalist Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir at his residence and inquired about his condition, while both central and metropolitan units expressed regret over the incident in separate statements.

A four-member inquiry committee was immediately formed to investigate the matter. Based on its findings, the organization took disciplinary action against those found responsible.
