Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh President Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury has welcomed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s polls-time government formula and urged the government to accept it.
“We support the formula. The government should accept the proposal positively for the sake of neutral election,” he said in a statement on Monday evening, reports UNB.
The former president of the republic said the caretaker government formula given by the opposition leader is balanced and a very neutral one. “I agree with the formula and support it.”
Appreciating the various aspects of Khaleda’s speech especially her admission of the previous mistakes, he said: “We wish her good journey in the coming days.”
The former president said the formula is right, but it can’t be a permanent one because men are mortal and the past advisers will not remain alive for ever.
“So, I think, only the next election should be held under this formula,” he said, adding that his party will come up with a permanent formula for future national elections.
Earlier, in the day, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia offered an alternative formula to form a polls-time government led by a revered person comprising 10 ex-advisers from the 1996 and 2001 caretaker governments to be chosen by the ruling and opposition parties to hold an inclusive and credible election.
“I’m proposing that from those 20 Advisers the ruling party can propose five names and the opposition another five. They’ll be the Advisers to the forthcoming election-time government,” she told a crowded press conference at city’s Westin Hotel.
