The pre-scheduled meeting between BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan Mozena began on Monday evening.
Our correspondent reported the meeting started at about 7:45pm at BNP’s Gulshan office.
The opposition chief is holding the meeting with the diplomat after her press briefing at Westin Hotel, to make the party’s position clear regarding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s call for an all-party poll-time government.
While addressing the press, Khaleda Zia proposed forming a 10-member caretaker government to oversee the upcoming national elections.
According to her proposal, the government would be comprised of five members selected by AL and five by BNP from 1996 and 2001 caretaker governments as those two caretaker governments were widely considered neutral.
Earlier on October 18, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a televised address, proposed forming an all-party government which would run the country during the next general elections.
She also invited the main opposition BNP to suggest names from the party lawmakers who will be included in the cabinet of the polls-time government.
