BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday that an anti-democratic force opposed to democracy and public rights has emerged in the country.
He made the remarks at a memorial meeting at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
Fakhrul said the BNP is “not a revolutionary party, rather it is a fully liberal democratic political party dedicated to the rights and welfare of the people.”
He added that the misuse of social media and false propaganda were damaging the political environment.
“Through this planned use of vulgar language, the environment for healthy politics is being severely harmed,” he said.
He alleged that “a well-planned conspiracy is under way to nullify the democratic space gained after a long movement and uprising and to create anarchy in the country.”
He also warned that those involved in the alleged conspiracy would be identified in defence of democracy and at a time of national crisis.
At the same event, BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said there were “enemies everywhere” and multiple conspiracies, including what he described as “bot armies”.
“But it will bring no benefit. The people are always with BNP and Tarique Rahman,” he said.
He also warned that failure to make people aware of the alleged conspiracy could lead to a major danger in the future.
