Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad is likely to send a party delegation to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban this evening.
“I have heard that the prime minister’s office has communicated the chairman about a meeting at Ganabhaban tomorrow evening,” the party’s Presidium Member Kazi Firoz Rashid told Dhaka Tribune over phone last evening. “I do not know anything details.”
Jatiya Party presidium on Saturday took a decision on quitting the ruling alliance on October 24, a party leader confirmed.
Several presidium members said quoting the party’s Chairman HM Ershad that the announcement of leaving the Awami League-led alliance would be made on October 24 or 25.
Senior Presidium Member Rowshan Ershad said it would not be wise to take such a decision hurriedly.
But other presidium members expressed their opinion in favour of leaving the alliance.
The party chairman is likely to meet senior leaders before starting for Ganabhaban today.
The party said on Saturday Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s proposal for an all-party interim government to conduct the next general election “lacks clarity”.
JP Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader told journalists after Saturday’s presidium meeting that they would have to wait for a while to finalise the party’s response regarding the offer.
