BNP policymakers to sit tonight

Update : 19 Oct 2013, 04:20 AM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to hold a meeting with the party's highest policy making body, the standing committee, at her Gulshan office Saturday night.

Sources inside the press wing of the party said the meeting will be held at 8:30pm.

The meeting is expected to shed light on the Prime Minister's proposal for an all-party government and device future course of action for the party.

The meeting, which had been announced earlier on October 15, is scheduled to set strategies for the ultimate anti-government propaganda after October 24.

BNP has also called for a rally on October 25 – a day after the term of the incumbent government expires – from where future plans are expected to be rolled out.

They sounded determined to hold the rally and have warned of armed resistance if they face obstruction.

It was amidst this, that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called for an all-party government in a speech to the nation Friday evening.

But in an instant reaction to the speech, BNP's acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said he found nothing new to it and that Hasina did not specify anything about the head of the interim government.

The upcoming national elections must be held between October 25 to January 24 next year.

After the 15th amendment, the caretaker provision was erased from the constitution during the rule of the running Awami League-led government.

Therefore, an election now has to be held under the rule of a government.

BNP has been demanding restoration of the provision and has has been threatening of dire consequences otherwise.
