The Awami League-led 14-party alliance partners welcomed the prime minister’s proposal of forming an all-party election-time government to oversee the next general election. They also urged the main opposition BNP to give positive response to the call.
Jatiya party, a key ally of the grand alliance, however, kept mum on the issue. The party would discuss the matter at its presidium meeting today and will formally give its reaction.
The ruling Awami League and its front organisations on Friday brought out a procession hailing the prime minister’s address to the nation. The procession started from the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue and ended there after parading different streets of the capital.
Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon termed Hasina’s offer “positive” and urged the BNP to response it positively.
“I think the prime minister’s call will erase the confusion over the polls-time government,” he said.
Menon, however, said: “If the BNP responds positively, rest of the unsettle issues can be resolved through discussion.”
Contacted, Jatiya Party Presidium member Anisul Islam Mahamud refused to make any comment on the prime minister’s speech. “Our Presidium meeting on Saturday will discuss the issue and then we will make clear our stand formally,” he added.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal hailed the directives made by the premier.
Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, party’s General Secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia said Hasina’s proposal was positive as well as constructive. “Now the BNP should come forward and response positively,” he added.
AL-led alliance partner Ganatantri Party General Secretary Nurur Rahman Selim viewed that the prime minister’s formal call would help to resolve the ongoing political deadlock.
He said consensus between two major political parties was mandatory to erase panic among the countrymen over the polls and future political scenario.
