Update : 18 Oct 2013, 05:15 AM

Law State Minister Quamrul Islam asked main opposition BNP to participate in the upcoming national elections for the sake of the country's children.

“Think about their exams,” he said while speaking at a programme marking the 49th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The year-end marks the terminal tests of schools, junior school certificate and equivalent examinations.

Quamrul claimed that the BNP wanted to defile and destroy the the country through acts of violence.

He urged the opposition to refrain from such activities.

Ruling Awami League-led government abolished the provision of a caretaker government in 2011.

BNP has been demanding the reinstatement of the provision in the constitution.

However, Awami League has been saying the upcoming elections, which will be held between October 25 to January 24 next year, will be held in line with the constitution.
