Additional police have been seen in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan office since Thursday morning.
The reason behind the heightened security measures in the area could not be known.
Paltan police station Sub-inspector Shahadat told the Dhaka Tribune that it was a routine security measure. Only an additional check post has been set up there.
Asadul Karim Shahin, an assistant office secretary of BNP, told the Dhaka Tribune that since morning additional police members have been seen around the area of BNP offices.
“The law enforcers barred the party leaders and activists, including the office staffs, from entering. Police also threatened BNP men like they were ruling party cadres.”
However, the assistant office secretary of the party said the presence of party leaders in the office was few because of eid.
He called out the police move as "undemocratic" and "unethical" as it was not followed by any formal announcement or reasonable grounds.
