Tarique Rahman urges BNP leaders to stand by people in crisis

BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed party leaders and activists to stand by people in any crisis.

He made the remarks in a goodwill speech to party members gathered in front of the BNP central office at Nayapaltan on Saturday around 9pm.

He said, “I will always need to come to the office for organizational work. However, roads cannot be blocked causing public suffering. People have voted for us. So we must stand by them in any crisis.” He also urged party activists to remain patient and manage situations responsibly.

Earlier, Tarique Rahman arrived in Nayapaltan around 7:15pm. He reiterated that while he needs to attend the party office for organizational purposes, roads must not be blocked. He also advised activists to remain alert. At the beginning of his speech, he urged the quick removal of an ambulance that was stuck in traffic.

Following news of his arrival, thousands of party activists gathered in front of the central office from the afternoon. The crowd spread from Kakrail to Fakirapool intersection.

A nearly two-hour meeting was held at the party office under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. Among those present were Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Advocate Abdus Salam, and Md Shamin Kaiser Lincoln, among others.

Earlier, after returning to the country following a two-decade absence, Tarique Rahman last visited the central office on December 29.
