The ruling Awami League has accepted the International Crimes Tribunal 2’s verdict against former minister Abdul Alim in his crimes against humanity cases, but viewed that the verdict was not expected by the people.
AL Joint General Secretary Mahabub-Ul-Alam Hanif on Wednesday made the comments while talking to reporters at his personal office at the TCB building in Kawran Bazar after the verdict.
Earlier on Wednesday, the former BNP leader was sentenced imprisonment unto death for his involvement in the crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
“The verdict could not fulfil peoples’ desire as they expected capital punishment of Alim, but the Awami League has accepted the verdict respecting the court,” Hanif said.
