Youth-led party to hold central Iftar in Dhaka, announce nationwide programs to celebrate year of political activism

Update : 28 Feb 2026, 12:20 PM

Saturday marks the first founding anniversary of the youth-based political party, the National Citizen Party (NCP). The party was launched on February 28, 2025, as a coordinated initiative by student leaders who spearheaded the July movement.

The party has organized various programs to celebrate its first anniversary.

Under the slogan “The country will move on a new path, fascism will never return,” a central Iftar gathering will be held on Saturday at the Abahani Field in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

According to the party, top leaders from different political parties and distinguished individuals are expected to attend.

Since its inception, the NCP has been vocal in demanding reforms and justice for the July killings. As a new political party, it secured registration from the Election Commission ahead of the recently concluded national parliamentary election. Its electoral symbol is the water lily bud. The party achieved moderate success in the election.

Joining the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami, the NCP contested 29 seats. Six top leaders, including Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, were elected.

Ariful Islam Adib, convener of the party’s anniversary celebration implementation committee, outlined the anniversary programs.

He said the party would celebrate the day with families of martyrs from the mass uprising, anti-fascist political groups and organizations, journalists, teachers, and workers.

Accordingly, the central Iftar gathering will be held at 4pm on Saturday at Abahani Field in Dhanmondi.

Families of July movement martyrs, leaders of various political parties, professionals, fellow activists of the anti-fascist movement, friends, and journalists will participate.

An exhibition will also be held at the venue. In addition, a chronological presentation highlighting the party’s significant political activities over the past year—titled “Street Wall”—will be displayed. A photo booth will also be set up.

To mark the anniversary, the NCP will also host divisional Iftar gatherings on Monday in Chittagong, Wednesday in Sylhet, Thursday in Mymensingh, March 7 in Faridpur, March 8 in Barisal, March 9 in Khulna, March 10 in Rajshahi, and March 11 in Rangpur. An Iftar program will also be held in Comilla on Tuesday.
