Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inquired about the health of Shafiqur Rahman, ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and leader of the opposition in parliament, after he fell ill on Tuesday.
The prime minister spoke to the Jamaat ameer over the phone upon learning of his illness.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar shared the information with reporters on Wednesday after paying a courtesy call on the prime minister.
According to Jamaat, the prime minister has agreed to attend an iftar mahfil organised by the party on February 28 along with his family. Golam Parwar, accompanied by Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, formally extended the invitation at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat.
Golam Parwar said the prime minister exchanged greetings with Shafiqur Rahman during the phone call and inquired about his health.
He also expressed hope that the government and the opposition would work together in the future for the development and progress of Bangladesh.
