BNP Standing Committee member and Chittagong-11 (Bandar-Patenga) constituency candidate Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday expressed optimism about the state of democracy, saying that voters were casting their ballots spontaneously.
Speaking to journalists after voting at around 11:45 am at Kattali Munshipara Government Primary School under the Chattogram-4 (Sitakunda) constituency, Amir Khasru said, “People are voting spontaneously. We can feel that democracy is returning.”
He said that during every critical and challenging period in the country’s history, the people of Bangladesh have placed their trust in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
“For overcoming crises, they have relied on the leadership of the BNP,” he said, adding that the party has guided the country through difficult times on multiple occasions.
Amir Khasru further said that people now want the BNP to lead the country and form the next government. “Our Chairman Tarique Rahman has been outlining plans to move the country forward by overcoming the current challenges. We hope to move toward implementing those plans,” he added.
Although Amir Khasru is contesting the election from Chattogram-11 (Bandar-Patenga) as a BNP-nominated candidate, he is a registered voter in the Chattogram-4 constituency, which includes Sitakunda and parts of the port city.
