Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said his party wants to move the country forward on the basis of justice and fairness, without engaging in conflict or division.

“We want to take the country forward based on justice and equity. We do not want to engage in hostilities over the past any longer, nor do we want to divide the nation. We want to move forward together, united,” he said on Wednesday afternoon in the North Kafrul area of the capital before in the Dhaka-15 constituency.

Referring to BNP candidate Shafiqul Islam Milton, he said: “I have one opponent here—there are others as well—but there is one particular opponent. I welcome him. Let us all come to the field and conduct our campaigns in a peaceful and disciplined manner. Let us respect one another and present our respective messages to the people.”

Highlighting problems in the constituency, the Jamaat leader said the area suffers from waterlogging, poor road conditions and various education and healthcare shortcomings.

“There is no university here, no standard, well-equipped hospital, no playgrounds, no parks, no walkways, and no places for rest or physical exercise,” he said, adding that his party has developed a vision to address the challenges by working with local residents.

“I carry this area in my heart. I dream about this area just as I dream about the entire country,” Shafiqur said. “Since I will be contesting the election from here, I have specific dreams for this constituency.”
