NCP fields 125 candidates in maiden electoral lineup

The party aims to ignite a ‘ballot revolution’ in this election and urged all to vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum to be held together with the national election, says Nasiruddin Patwary

Update : 10 Dec 2025, 08:17 PM

The National Citizen Party (NCP) on Wednesday announced its first list of 125 preliminary nominees for the upcoming national parliamentary election, signaling the party’s most extensive organizational move since gaining registration earlier this year.

The announcement was made at a press conference at the party’s temporary Banglamotor office, where Member Secretary Akhter Hossen formally released the names.

He said that the list remains provisional and may change following internal review.

Speaking before the announcement, NCP Convener Nahid Islam said the party aimed to spark a “ballot revolution” and instructed nominees to campaign both for votes under the party’s symbol Shapla Koli and for a ‘Yes’ vote in the national referendum slated to be held alongside the general election.

Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, who will contest Dhaka-18, urged supporters to treat the upcoming polls as an opportunity to reshape national politics after the July uprising.

Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara, nominated from Dhaka-9, said the party had sold around 1,500 nomination forms and promised a “different flavour of candidature,” adding that form sales had been kept open for all.

Akhter Hossen reminded that any complaints against nominees would trigger immediate investigation and possible cancellation.

Top leadership contesting key constituencies

The preliminary list confirms that all senior central leaders will contest key constituencies.

Convener Nahid Islam is set to run from Dhaka-11, while Member Secretary Akhter Hossen will stand in Rangpur-4.

Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has been nominated for Dhaka-18, and Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara for Dhaka-9.

Chief Organizer (North) Sarjis Alam will contest Panchagarh-1, with Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah in Cumilla-4.

Joint Convenors Sarwar Tushar and Tajnuva Jabeen will vie for Narsingdi-2 and Dhaka-17 respectively, while Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud has been nominated for Noakhali-6.

Party officials said the remaining nominees represent a mix of youth activists, July movement organizers, professionals, and grassroots workers from across the country.

Candidate selection, they added, reflects NCP’s effort to position itself as a post-uprising alternative force in national politics.

Joint Member Secretary Mushfiq Us Salehin told Dhaka Tribune that the list is “only the first phase” and that the leadership will continue reviewing field assessments before finalizing nominations.

The NCP, formed out of the July anti-discrimination movement, is one of several new parties entering the national electoral field for the first time.

Party leaders said additional candidate lists will be released in the coming days.
