Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain said Bangladesh is waiting to see India’s response regarding the return of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
“India has said they are examining the matter. Let them examine it — we are also waiting. However, the highest court has already handed down her sentence. We had earlier requested her return but did not receive a positive response. We are now waiting to see what India does,” he told reporters during an exchange of views at the Rangpur Circuit House around 10:30am on Friday.
Speaking about BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s planned travel to London for medical treatment, the adviser said: “It is not possible for her to fly to London today due to a technical issue. The aircraft scheduled to take her developed a fault. There may be a delay of one to two days. However, I have learned that Tarique Rahman’s wife, Zubaida Rahman, has already arrived in Dhaka.”
Responding to a question on ongoing reforms, the adviser said: “We will not be able to complete all reforms. But we have initiated the process. I hope those who form the next government will take the necessary steps to continue it.”
