Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said election was the only way to change the government.
“There is no alternative to election for changing the government. At this moment, that is the only way,” he told reporters during a visit to the site of repair work of Masterbari-Mirzapur road on Wednesday.
“As per our constitution, the current government has only 20-22 days left. So, no one believes that it is possible to bring down the government from power at this time, as the opposition alliance failed after trying for about past five years.”
Obaidul Quader said the government would not allow any cattle markets beside highways, which was the main reason behind highway traffic congestion.
“I do not do politics while I am on the road,” he said. “I came to work for the development of road and for all of mankind.”
He said: “I am a politician myself and I have became a minister from a party. But I have done all this work in the interest of the public.”
He claimed that the situation of roads and highways was better than ever before.
“Though there has been some problem in the past two or three days because of the rain, it will be fixed before Eid.”
Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Division Dhaka Circle Shahabuddin, Deputy Assistant Engineer Md Amir Hossain, and officials of the division, among others, accompanied the minister on the visit.
