Patwary: NCP nominating honest candidates, sets precedent

'Major parties are still selecting candidates through conventional practices'

Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), said that the party is presenting honest and inclusive candidates, claiming a historic precedent over major parties’ conventional selections.

He said: "We are nominating honest candidates, which is a significant surprise from our side. In the 53-year history of politics, no party has set such a precedent. Major parties are still selecting candidates through conventional practices. In contrast, we are presenting candidates who are honest and inclusive.”

He made these comments on Sunday at a press conference of the NCP’s Central Election Management Committee held at the Abu Sayed Convention Hall in Shahbagh, Dhaka.

Aspiring candidates from across the country were present to meet with the nomination board.

During the event, Patwary alleged that NCP candidates have been subjected to various threats and intimidation during their campaigns. He attributed this to individuals appointed by the Awami administration and demanded their removal.

He added: “The process of reform is the responsibility of the government. However, it is repeatedly obstructed due to political parties.”

The NCP leader further said: “To uphold the spirit of July, the representatives of the popular movement should enter the Parliament. Once we are in Parliament, we will work towards the implementation of reforms.”
