Activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student affiliate of BNP, brought out a demonstration procession in the area adjacent to the Dhaka University campus protesting the case filed against their leaders on Tuesday morning.
The procession marched from Chankharpool to the Palashi area around 11am as part of their prescheduled program.
Led by DU unit Organising Secretary Minhazul Islam, Himmel Ahmed, Kamrul Hasan (Shimul), among others, DU unit activists took part in the procession.
The leaders and activists of the organisation’s Dhaka University wing took part in the procession.
Five JCD men, including its president, were accused in a case filed for exploding bombs at the Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu’s residence in June.
Meanwhile, a faction of JCD’s unit in Jahangirnagar University (JU) torched a passenger bus in front of the varsity main gate after a demonstration procession around the same time.
Witnesses and police said Sohel Rana, organising secretary of JCD’s JU unit, had reportedly led the agitated JCD activists to set fire to the bus.
Fire service rushed to the scene to douse the fire.
