Meeting held on the ban of student politics at DU

Besides the provosts' meeting, the university administration will also sit with students and student organizations again

Update : 09 Aug 2025, 03:15 PM

The university’s Provost Standing Committee held a meeting on Saturday to discuss the ban on student politics in Dhaka University (DU) halls.

Following the announcement of the Chhatra Dal committee in DU halls on Friday, general students began protesting.

After intense demonstrations continuing past midnight on Saturday, the university administration reaffirmed its stance on student politics in the halls.

DU Proctor and Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed announced that activities would now follow the framework outlined in the July 17, 2024, notice issued by the halls to suspend student politics. He made the announcement at 2:45am on Saturday.

However, this has created pressure on the hall provosts. Regarding the July 17 framework and student politics in the halls, the university’s Provost Standing Committee met on Saturday with provosts from all halls in attendance, according to Professor Shaheen Khan, provost of Kabi Jasimuddin Hall.

Besides the provosts' meeting, the university administration will also sit with students and student organizations again, said Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed. However, the date for that meeting has not yet been decided.
