Supporters of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami, attacked a police officer in Sylhet city on Monday morning.
Sylhet Kotwali police said the attack took place in the Bandarbazar area at around 9am.
Acting Officer-in-charge Shyamal told the Dhaka Tribune that Shibir activits had been marching in the area when they had spotted Shah Paran Police Station Sub Inspector Humayun Kabir riding past.
“They swooped on him. Humayun managed to flee. The Shibir men vandalised his motorbike.”
It was not clear if the officer had any serious injuries.
Jamaat supporters have acted violently towards police in the past. In April, they smashed the head of a police officer in Rajshahi with bricks.
