Police detained 25 Jamaat-Shibir activists in connection with Saturday night’s attack on UP member and ruling party activists at Dhopadanga in Debhata upazila.
A police team headed by Molla Jahangeer Hossain, superintendant of police, conducted the drive overnight to arrest the Jamaat activists and its student wing Islami Chhattra Shibir from different areas of Satkhira. BGB members also associate the drive.
Monir Hossain, sub-inspector of Debhata Police Station said the arrestees were kept in Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
Police conducted a drive in Dhopadanga of Shafipur in connection with the murder of Awami League leader Abdul Aziz which happened a few months ago.
Meanwhile, the two leaders of ruling Awami League’s voluntary wing — Nazim Uddin, 35, also a member of Shakhipur UP, and Akim Uddin, 37 — were injured in the attack allegedly by some Jamaat-Shibir activists at the Dhopadanga intersection in the upazila on Saturday night.
Officer-in-charge of Satkhira Police Station, Nasir Uddin said a gang of criminals swooped in on Akimuddin and Nazimuddin at around 10:00pm when they were returning home and physically assaulted them with iron rods, leaving them severly injured.
They were rushed to Debhata Upazila Health Complex, and on Sunday morning were shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
They were in critical condition but no case had been filed regarding this incident, said police.
