Suspended Gazipur mayor MA Mannan sent to hospital

Update : 05 May 2016, 07:41 PM
Kashimpur Jail has sent suspended Gazipur mayor and BNP leader MA Mannan to a hospital in Dhaka. An ambulance brought him from Kashimpur Central Jail-1 to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday morning, jail Superintendent Subrata Kumar Banik said. On Wednesday police was granted three days to interrogate him. The superintendent said arrangements had been made to send Mannan to Dhaka on Wednesday but a police escort was unavailable. The prison hospital's Dr Mizanur Rahman said Mannan was suffering from diabetes, hypothyroidism and kidney and heart problems and he was also physically weak. The hospital had advised to send him to BSMMU for better treatment. BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Mannan was arrested on April 15 in Kaliakair along with seven of his party colleagues as he was heading back to Dhaka. He was later shown arrested in two arson cases with the Joydebpur and Kaliakair police stations. The mayor had been released from jail in March by a High Court order after over a year of imprisonment. In April the High Court also put a stay order on the government’s suspension of Mannan, reinstating him as the mayor of Gazipur. After the latest case, the Local Government Ministry suspended him once again.
