BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday said the party wants to go back to the 5th Amendment as far as fundamental constitutional principles of the country are concerned.
Salahuddin said this at a press briefing after the fifth day of the second phase of the National Consensus Commission discussions at the Foreign Service Academy.
“If we go back to the 5th Amendment, we will have no objection,” he said.
“It will enshrine equality, human dignity, democracy and social justice in the constitution,” he added.
Commission Vice-Chairman Prof Dr Ali Riaz chaired the discussion, while members Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Md Ayub Mia and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haidar were present.
Thirty-two political parties, including the BNP, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Biplobi Workers Party, Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, participated in the discussions.
