BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the time has come to rebuild the country’s institutions, which have been destroyed over the past 15 years.
“The student-people uprising has created a new opportunity for us to establish democracy. We must remain united. This is our chance to rebuild the country,” he remarked at the final match and closing ceremony of the Mirza Ruhul Amin Memorial Tournament at Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium in Thakurgaon on Friday afternoon.
He also emphasized that sports and sporting venues should remain free from politics.
“There should be no division or conflict in the field of sports. Sports must be kept free from political influence,” Fakhrul said.
At the event, the BNP secretary general—himself a former prominent sportsperson and sports enthusiast—paid tribute to the late sports figures who made significant contributions to the district’s athletic development.
He also shared personal memories and experiences related to local sports and sports organizations.
Additionally, he paid his respects to the martyrs of the student-people uprising and expressed deep gratitude for their sacrifices.
