BNP Joint Secretary General Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee said that the July movement was not a sudden event but a mass uprising, where everyone shed their sweat and made sacrifices.

He made these remarks on Friday at a discussion titled “The Role of the Media and Political Leadership in Restoring Democracy,” organized to mark the beginning of the third decade of the Jagannath University Journalists Association (JnUJA).

Anee continued: "Those who spoke out against the fascists were the ones who went to jail and faced repression. People have fought against this autocratic ruler for years. I pay my respects to those who led and were martyred in the July uprising."

He added: "Fascist Hasina has introduced a new culture of enforced disappearances in the country. We did not take to the streets just for the sake of elections. We want to rebuild the nation. We will move the country forward by implementing Tarique Rahman's 31-point agenda. We want justice against the fascist regime. Justice and reform are ongoing—this is a continuous process. We must further strengthen our unity.

"Fascism has dishonored our country. Now, through elections, an elected government will be established."
