BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has declared that the Nagar Bhaban will operate under their supervision and that no officials will be allowed to work from the office, although essential public services will continue.

He made these comments on Sunday while participating in the ongoing sit-in program organized by Dhaka residents, demanding that he be handed over charge as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

Ishraque Hossain said that vital services such as the issuance of birth certificates will remain operational, but officials involved in other developmental activities will not be permitted to attend office.

“The main gate of Nagar Bhaban will remain locked as a symbol of the movement,” he said, adding: “Public services required for daily life will continue under our supervision.”

He further said that the sit-in will continue uninterrupted until he is officially sworn in.

“I am the legitimate mayor—not by force, but by constitutional means and the people’s mandate,” he asserted.

He said: “It is the government that will face accusations of violating the law and constitution in the days to come. I urge the government to resolve this matter promptly.”

The BNP leader alleged that political motivations are behind the delay in administering his oath of office.

"By disregarding the verdict, the Local Government adviser has defied the court’s ruling, breached his oath and violated the law,” he said, urging the chief adviser to intervene and resolve all issues surrounding Nagar Bhaban without further delay.
