BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has said that no adviser or administrator will be allowed to sit in the Nagar Bhaban.

If necessary, he said, a revolutionary City Council comprising former councillors and heads of educational institutions will be formed to operate the affairs of Dhaka South City Corporation.

He made the comments on Friday while visiting the National Eidgah Ground, which has been prepared for the main jamaat of the Eid-ul-Azha, reports Bangla Tribune.

Ishraque Hossain further said: “No administrator or adviser will be allowed to sit in the Nagar Bhaban. Yes, It was possible for me to take up that position by compromising with them, but I refrained, as it would not have benefited the people of the city."

Regarding his visit to the National Eidgah Ground, Ishraque said: “I am here as the rightful mayor, as per the electoral mandate and the directive of the Supreme Court. This falls within my responsibilities. I will also be present on the ground tomorrow (Saturday) alongside the workers engaged in cleaning operations.”

Commenting on the interim government’s Advisory Council, he said the council has lost its impartiality and that fair elections cannot be held under its oversight.

He further urged the advisers that if they wish to engage in politics, they should resign from their current posts and join politics openly.
