Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has invited BNP to the State Guest House Jamuna on June 2 for discussions.

Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee, said this at a discussion meeting of the Krishak Dal in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.

He said: “Those who do not want elections are calling BNP leaders traitors and agents of other countries. A group is repaying 17 years of sacrifice.”

The BNP leader also alleged that a group is creating division within the nation through the manipulation of fascism.

Salahuddin Ahmed said that the BNP has been invited for talks by the chief adviser on June 2.

“There is no shortage of formalities for talks. But they have nothing to do,” he said.

Alleging that bananas are being hung in the name of reforms, he said: “The elections should be held before December, this is the people’s demand. There is no reason to hold elections after December.”

Salahuddin demanded that the government disclose its rationale for elections after December, even if there is a rationale for elections after December.

On the other hand, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that those who entered politics after August 5 do not want elections.

He alleged that those who do not want to go to the elections have entered politics through a special process rather than through democracy.

Speaking at a discussion organized at the National Press Club on Saturday to mark the death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, he said that 52 democratic parties want national elections by December.

He added: “Those who do not want elections all entered politics after August 5.”

Khasru said: “These parties are part of a planned and controlled politics. They do not represent the people. They are afraid of democracy. Because if there is an election, they will not have a place.”

At the discussion meeting, Amir Khasru also said: “Those who do not want an election now to have chosen the back door path to stay in power, excluding the people.”

He added: “But the people of the country will not accept that path anymore. This country cannot function without a fair election.

“The election must be held by December,” he further added.
