BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has emphasized the nation’s demand for a free, fair, and impartial national parliamentary election.
The BNP senior leader made the comment while addressing a program at the Mazar Gate of the High Court (HC) as the chief guest on Friday afternoon.
“There is a desire among the nation for a free, fair, and impartial national parliamentary election. We have voiced our expectations in alignment with the aspirations of the people,” he said.
The program was organized by Shahbagh Thana BNP under Dhaka Metropolitan South, marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of the party’s founder, martyred president Ziaur Rahman.
Food was distributed among destitute people there.
Reflecting on the legacy of Ziaur Rahman, the BNP leader described the late president as “a reflection of Bangladesh’s history.”
He added: “Ziaur Rahman was born for the independence of this country. He was martyred to safeguard the country’s independence. He introduced multi-party democracy and established the Judicial Council to ensure the independence of the judiciary.
“Ziaur Rahman was brutally murdered in a well-planned conspiracy aimed at halting democracy and development in Bangladesh.”
Calling for unity and resilience, he added: “We will turn this grief into strength and lay a democratic and constitutional foundation for the country.”
The event was attended by Supreme Court Bar Association President Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum Secretary General Barrister Kaiser Kamal, and leaders and activists from various BNP and its affiliated organizations.
