Political instability and uncertainty have gripped the country due to the absence of a clear roadmap for justice, reform, and a credible election, Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, has said.

He made the remark during a labour rally organized by Bangladesh Garment Sramik Sanghati in front of the National Press Club on Friday afternoon.

Saki said that unless the rights of workers are ensured, building a "new Bangladesh" will not be possible.

He said the uprising stands on the sacrifices of workers.

Calling on the government to prioritize workers’ rights, he urged the swift implementation of the recommendations of the Labour Reform Commission.

He highlighted the need for a new democratic political arrangement, adding that there is no balance of power in the current system.

“Although the fascist regime fell on August 5, power remains concentrated in the hands of one individual,” Saki said.

The politician called for the announcement of a clear roadmap for judicial reform and elections.

He also stressed the need to ensure a safe working environment for garment workers, fair wages for a dignified life, and adequate maternity leave for women.

Referring to the Labour Reform Commission’s report, he said labour laws must be enacted in line with international standards and that existing loopholes should be addressed.

“There is no alternative to struggle in achieving rights,” Saki said, adding that rights have never been granted without struggle, and that the same holds true today.

“Struggle will remain the only path forward, and we must be prepared for it,” he added.

Leaders from various labour organizations also addressed the rally.
