Calling on party leaders to strictly follow guidelines during membership recruitment and renewal, BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized that individuals with socially unacceptable, extortionist, terrorist, or corrupt backgrounds would not be allowed to join the party.
“You must adhere to the party's guidelines when recruiting or renewing memberships. Failing to do so will damage the party’s image and erode its popular support,” he said on Saturday while inaugurating BNP’s membership renewal program in Chittagong.
Khasru further said that those involved with the Awami League would also not be accepted into the party.
“However, there is no issue in including Awami League supporters who did not obstruct BNP activities, did not participate in repression against BNP workers, and even cooperated with us secretly over the past 15 years,” he clarified.
He stressed that anyone wishing to join the BNP must do so openly. “There is no scope for joining BNP politics in a covert manner,” he added.
“Stay away from individuals who may damage the party’s image and reputation or weaken our public support,” Khasru urged party leaders and activists.
He also called on them to unite and engage a broader segment of the population under the BNP’s banner, saying: “BNP is the largest political party in the country, and the people want to build a new Bangladesh following the removal of Sheikh Hasina from power.”
“We must take responsibility and work together to fulfill the people's aspirations. The younger generation wants a democratic Bangladesh—where everyone has a say in governance and where the economic system ensures fair and equal opportunity for all,” he said.
Reflecting on BNP’s past tenure in power during 1991–1996 and 2001–2007, the former commerce minister highlighted significant achievements in export growth and employment generation under BNP rule.
He urged party leaders and activists to promote these past successes, particularly among the youth.
