Govt scrapped CG to grab power forever: Khaleda

Update : 15 Sep 2013, 05:41 AM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia alleged on Sunday that the government had scrapped the caretaker government provision from the constitution, even though 90% of the population is in favour of holding the next election under a non-party caretaker government, in a ploy to grab power forever.

“I urged the government to restore the caretaker government system, showing respect to the public opinion. If the government does not accept our demand we will have to mobilise a united movement to force it to comply,” Khaleda said, addressing an assembly gathered outside Bogra Circuit House before she started for Rangpur.

She called upon the citizens to forge a strong and steel-like unity to realise the demand.

Khaleda Zia is scheduled to address a public rally on the Rangpur Zila High School grounds at 3pm.

She arrived Rangpur around 2:15pm.

Khaleda will stay at Rangpur Circuit House on Sunday night.

The BNP chief left Dhaka on Saturday afternoon and stayed overnight at the Bogra Circuit House.

On Monday afternoon, Khaleda will address another rally on the Rajshahi Madrasa grounds.

Local BNP units have made elaborate preparations to welcome their leader and make the rallies a success.

The tour aims at directing public opinion in favour of the opposition alliance’s demand for a poll-time non-partisan government.
