The National Citizen Party (NCP) has declared that no national election will be allowed until the Awami League is banned, demanding the immediate cancellation of the party’s registration.
Sarwar Tushar, joint convenor of the NCP, made the statement while addressing a protest rally organized by the Gulshan zone of the party near Rampura Bridge in the capital at 5pm on Friday.
The demonstration was held demanding justice against the Awami League, its political ban, political reforms, and an election for a constituent assembly.
“The Awami League is a secretive organization conspiring against the country in collaboration with Delhi,” said Tushar.
He alleged that wherever the Awami League operates, resistance must be mounted.
He further accused certain quarters of attempting to rehabilitate murderers in exchange for money, adding that such betrayal would not be accepted by the country’s student community.
He reiterated NCP’s firm stance that no one should be allowed to serve as prime minister more than once.
Tushar also criticized the Election Commission, claiming that while various fringe groups were being registered, the National Citizen Party was being denied registration.
He called for the establishment of a roadmap for constitutional amendment through a constituent assembly election.
NCP’s Joint Member Secretary Zainal Abedin Shishir termed it unfortunate that a demand to ban the Awami League had to be raised before an interim government.
“Fascists must not be allowed to return to power in any form,” he said, adding that banning the Awami League was the most significant reform needed.
He also urged BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to clarify his party’s position on the matter and speak out publicly.
Other speakers at the rally included NCP’s Central Chief Organizer Saifullah Hayder, Central Executive Committee Organizer Nazmul Hasan, members Fahim Pathan and Imran Emon, Hatirjheel thana representatives Abdul Gaffar and Robin Ahmed, Rampura thana representative Sakhawat Hossain, Banani thana representative Enamul Haque, and Badda-based leader Laily Akter.
